She asked the minister at her church to consider adding a special day to the church calendar to celebrate Father’s day, who obliged her request. She chose her father’s birth month, June, for Father’s Day—and so it began!

Father’s Day began in 1910 in Spokane, and was celebrated for years before being adopted as a national holiday in 1972 in the United States.
