Best & Worst Things to Buy in July

Jul 15, 2016

Mid-summer savings await, but before you spend a single penny, you’ll want to check out this list of what to buy – and what to skip – during the month of July. We’ll help you stay cool under pressure because you’re in the know!

What to Buy in July

Home Goods & Handbags: According to the Today Show’s lifestyle expert Bahar Takhtehchian, you’ll find deep discounts on home décor this month – up to 65% off. Big sales at Amazon and Walmart and amazing deals on outdoor home goods at Pier 1 and Sears as well as handbags at Macys.com and BlueFly.com.

Video games. You’ll find several discounts on video games this month. According to CBS News, “look for big name titles for big discounts, like Call of Duty for 50 percent off or Skyrim and Portal for up to 80 percent off.” Amazon is offering pre-orders for Pokemon Sun or Pokemon Moon for $31.99 with free shipping this month as an Amazon Prime exclusive deal.

Outdoor Gear. July is a great month to pick up outdoor gear and apparel. According to Deals.com, you’re likely to see discounts of around 50% off on outdoor gear and clothing at stores like Columbia, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Bass Pro Shops, Backcountry, and Gander Mountain.

Shipping overseas? If you are looking for an A+ rated international shipper service with no U.S. sales tax applied*, we are ready to help you take advantage of this month’s discounts!

What Not to Buy in July

Before you start shopping, you also need to know which deals you can skip this month. If you can be patient, you’ll find bigger and better discounts for these items in another month or two.

Xbox One. According to dealnews.com, “It’d be very tempting to snatch up an Xbox One right now, as the MSRP has officially dropped twice in two weeks, from $349 to $279. But before you jump on that blanket discount, know that we’ve seen the console for as little as $259 in just the last few months, and those deals often came with bundled games to boot.” With a new Xbox already available for pre-order, you’ll see deep discounts on the cheaper Xbox as soon as the new model hits stores August 31.

Shopping Tip: Place the item on websites that have “Wish Lists” and watch for end of summer pricing discounts.

Summer Clothes and Sunglasses. We know that those summer clearance emails are filling up your inbox, but the smart bet is to wait to take advantage of end-of-summer sales in August or September. Don’t worry…sales on everything from sundresses, sandals, swimsuits and sunglasses will keep on coming!

Shopping tip: Take inventory now and decide which summer items you need (or want) to replace. That way, you’ll be ready once those late-summer sales come around next month.

School supplies. It’s tempting to want to check this off your list now so you’re not scrambling the weekend before the kids head back to school this Fall, but Summer might not be the time to buy. Waiting until August to do your back-to-school shopping will save you the most money on school supplies, backpacks and lunchboxes. You can count on better deals if wait until a week or so before school begins.

Shopping tip: Make sure you have your school’s official list – by grade, of school supplies handy so you’re ready to take advantage of last minute deals and discounts.
